Double-sided "You're Twistin' My (Water)melon Man" Ankara print lampshade

‘You're Twistin' My (Water)melon Man’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned and plain textiles and how they combine. Handmade using an Ankara waxed cotton fabric, this shade creates a soft, graphic light when illuminated that can be manipulated in light temperature depending on the plain fabric that is chosen to pair with it.

Fabric Story This design features an Ankara waxed cotton print, featuring a watermelon motif. The pattern is playful, with reds, greens, black and white all featured.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its pale blue lining, ‘You're Twistin' My (Water)melon Man’ gives of a cool aura even when warm bulbs are applied. The peach tone transfers subtly into the white elements of the pattern and the pattern colours remain intact. Alternative inner colour options are available and would have a more dramatic effect on both the light colour emanating from the shade whilst also transforming the pattern colours. Its balanced behaviour makes it adaptable to both ambient and task lighting.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The wave pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
