Double-sided ‘Summer Duel’ Gingham lampshade

‘Summer Duel’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how patterned textiles behave when placed inside a shade. Unlike traditional lampshades, ‘Summer Duel’ reveals its design only when lit, creating a bold, glowing horizontal stripe effect. A modern addition to any room.

Fabric Story This shade features a cotton, striped, printed fabric on both the inside and outside faces. When the lamp is off, the exterior appears as a series of 1" wide cornflower blue and white, horizontal stripes.

Lighting Behaviour When illuminated, the interior vertical stripes glow through the lining, creating a gingham effect that can give off a warm or cool light temperature depending on the choice of bulb. It also works well with coloured lightbulbs which add a further dimension to the gingham changing the colours of both sets of stripes. Its ability to shift personality under different bulb options and bulb temperatures makes it a versatile choice for ambient, task and decorative lighting.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The interior pattern is aligned with precision, the lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.

Practical Details Available in multiple sizes and suitable for both pendant and table‑lamp fittings.
