Double-sided Kaffe Fassett ‘Psychedelic Ferns’ lampshade

'Psychedelic Ferns' is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and the use of artificial lighting. It’s handmade using a fabric that comes alive when lit, creating depth, warmth, and a sculptural atmosphere.

Fabric Story This shade features a Kaffe Fassett Fern print, chosen for its rhythmic geometry and rich colour layering of vermillion and dark red.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with the acid yellow interior and placed under warm light, 'Psychedelic Ferns' produces a rich ambience, enhancing the reds within the pattern. When illuminated, the deeper tones soften while the lighter accents glow, giving the shade a dynamic, expressive presence. Cooler bulbs and a the alternative pale blue inner colour sharpen the geometric forms, giving the shade a crisp, vibrant character and turning the reds more to the purple spectrum. Its balanced response to both lighting temperatures makes it versatile across living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The exterior pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its form over time. As part of a limited run, every piece carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
