‘Jungle Cat’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned textiles. Handmade using an Ankara fabric, this shade creates a soft, atmospheric light that glows beautifully when illuminated.

Fabric Story This design features an Ankara waxed cotton fabric on the outside, chosen for its bold green and black leopard print on a white background. When lit, the pattern colours are affected by the choice of inner fabric so a darker, moodier light or a lighter, brighter effect can be achieved when illuminated.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its rust orange lining, 'Jungle Cat' responds distinctively when warm bulbs are applied. The orange tone transfers into the white elements of the pattern and darken the greens to now naturalist browns, creating an intense hue. Yellow is offered as an alternative inner colour which would lighten the green to a lime, resulting in a completely different lighting hue. This design is an excellent example of how the inner colour can change the aesthetics a lampshade gives off.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The wave pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
