‘Indian Summer’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned  and plain textiles. Handmade using an Indian printed fabric plus a plain coloured fabric, which when combined create an atmospheric light that glows beautifully when illuminated.

Fabric Story This design features an Indian print, with peacock and palm motifs on a pink background, and was chosen for the depth in the pattern created by the different hues of green veering into teal and its striking graphic. The contrast between the pink and greens in the pattern is a very pleasing one, and when lit, the the shade produces a calm yet expressive glow.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its sand coloured lining, 'Indian Summer' responds distinctively when warm bulbs are applied. The sand tone transfers subtly through the pattern and changes the pink into a rich peach, creating a soothing and relaxing light ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. Cooler bulbs sharpen the edges of the pattern, bringing clarity and vibrancy that works beautifully in hallways, studios, or reading corners. Its balanced behaviour makes it adaptable to both ambient and task lighting.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The exterior pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
