Double-sided 'House of Charles' lampshade incorporating Liberty of London tana lawn fabric

‘House of Charles’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned and plain coloured textiles. Handmade using a Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabric and a plain coloured cotton this shade creates an atmospheric light that glows beautifully when illuminated.

Fabric Story This shade features a Liberty of London Charles House designed cotton fabric on the interior featuring a pink and red floral crest on a pink background. The lampshade was designed for the Coronation of King Charles III. When the lamp is off, the exterior remains calm and understated in a clean, plain, coloured fabric. When illuminated, the interior pattern glows through the lining.

Lighting Behaviour Originally paired with a purple velvet on the outside "House of Charles" responds creates an intense pink glow when lit by warm bulbs and there is a subtle transference of the inner pattern to the outside. Alternative colours in plain cotton are available for the outside face which would intensively the the transference of the inner pattern. Its ability to shift personality under different outer colour options and bulb temperatures makes it a versatile choice for both ambient and decorative lighting.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The wave pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.

Practical Details Available in multiple sizes and suitable for both pendant and table‑lamp fittings.
