Double-sided 'Dark on Fire' Ankara print lampshade

‘Dark on Fire’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned and plain textiles when combined. Handmade using an Ankara fabric, this shade creates a rich, vibrant, atmospheric light that glows beautifully when illuminated.

Fabric Story A personal favourite from my patterned range, this design features an Ankara waxed cotton printed fabric on the outside, chosen for its sweeping brushstroke or flame motif and striking contrast between the flashes of lemon yellow, pink, orange and red on the black background. The pattern has a  sense of movement, and when lit, the brushstrokes intensify, giving the shade a rich, expressive glow.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its lemon lining, ‘Dark on Fire’ responds distinctively when warm bulbs are applied. The lemon tone transfers intensifies the coloured elements of the pattern without affecting the black areas. The result is an even greater contrast between pattern and background. The resulting light is ideal for living and dining rooms plus hallways. Alternative colours are available for the inner fabric including pink, orange, burnt orange for those of you who want to intensify the light temperature even further.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The wave pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
