‘Before I Turn to Rust’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how artificial light interacts with patterned and plain coloured textiles. Handmade using a Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabric and a plain coloured cotton this shade creates an atmospheric light that glows beautifully when illuminated.

Fabric Story This design features the Liberty of London, fabric outside. It's a dichromatic, botanical pattern in dark brown on white and because of this, the fabric is the perfect partner to any number of plain fabric colour options for the inside

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its rust lining, ‘Before I Turn to Rust’ responds by producing a  intensely warm light when a bulb is applied as the rust tone is transferred into the white elements of the pattern. This light temperature works beautifully in living and dining rooms or bedrooms. Cooler or lighter plain colours on the inside are an option and would also transfer to the white areas bringing different levels of vibrancy meaning the design can be tailored to use as task lighting as well as ambient lighting.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The wave pattern is aligned with precision, the interior lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its sculptural form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
