Double-sided ‘Hidden Chevrons' green and pink Ankara print lampshade
‘Hidden Chevrons’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how patterned textiles behave when placed inside a shade. Unlike traditional lampshades, ‘Hidden Chevrons’ reveals its design only when lit, creating a bold, glowing chevron patterned effect. A modern addition to any room.
Fabric Story This shade features an Ankara waxed cotton, printed fabric on the interior, chosen for its graphic, slightly retro, chevron pattern in my personal favourite colour combination of pink & green. When the lamp is off, the exterior remains calm and understated in a clean, plain, coloured fabric. When illuminated, the interior chevrons glow through the lining, creating a an effect that shifts subtly depending on the your choice of lightbulb temperature.
Lighting Behaviour Paired with its Black outer face, ‘Hidden Chevrons’ responds to warm bulbs, pulling the interior pattern through the shade and creating a subtle, graphic glow ideal for living rooms, hallways, and evening lighting. A lighter colour on the outside results in a more dramatic transformation, sharpening the pattern definition and intensifies the contrast between off and on, giving the shade a crisp, contemporary character.
Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The interior pattern is aligned with precision, the lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.
