Double-sided ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ lampshade

‘Rhubarb & Custard’ is a bespoke lampshade designed using my architectural understanding of illumination and how patterned textiles behave when placed inside a shade. Unlike traditional lampshades, ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ reveals its design only when lit, creating a bold, glowing horizontal stripe effect. A modern addition to any room.

Fabric Story This shade features a black and white horizontal 1 inch wide striped print on the interior, and on the outside is a 50/50 combination of peach and acid yellow plain cotton fabrics. It references the colours in my  kitchen but also takes inspiration from the childhood sweets I was so keen on! When the lamp is off, the exterior remains calm and is a combination of the two plain, coloured fabrics. When illuminated, the interior stripes glow through the lining, creating a striped effect flowing from the yellow to the peach sections.

Lighting Behaviour Paired with its peach and yellow outer face, ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ responds to warm bulbs, pulling the interior stripes through the shade and creating a soft, graphic glow ideal for living and dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms.

Handmade Craft Each lampshade is handmade in London using traditional making techniques. The interior pattern is aligned with precision, the lining is finished cleanly, and the structure is built to maintain its form over time. As part of a limited run, every shade carries the individuality of the maker’s hand.

Practical Details Available in multiple sizes and suitable for both pendant and table‑lamp fittings.
